On Feb 10th - 11th, Lucky Racer Coaches Rob and Jim, Founder Kris and Chairman Rich along with Team USA Assistant Coach Duncan Myers put on a two day race camp At Perfect North Slopes. Great weather and some great support from Perfect North operations made for a very productive camp where we worked on starts, slalom, giant slalom and super G. The athletes who attended were:

Our 2025 Lucky Racer Champion, Teagan Lockwood, based in Fairbanks, Alaska, has been an active participant in Special Olympics since 2015, excelling in Alpine skiing and engaging in athletics, gymnastics, and starting golf in the summer of 2024. Despite injuries, including an ACL tear and ankle tendon injury, Teagan displays resilience and bravery, returning to skiing after surgeries and rehabilitation. Named the Special Olympics Alaska Female Athlete of the Year in 2021 and earning a varsity letter in cheerleading, she demonstrates her commitment to excellence.
If you haven't heard....our Lucky Racer Ambassador, DesaRae Nickell made her stamp at the Special Olympic World Games in Italy bringing home the Bronze in GS (Giant Slalom)
Teegan skis well and just misses the podium with a 4th.
It was a snowy day but that didn't deter DesaRae from skiing her best which put her on her first podium of the games! She said the scariest part was skiing the very steep run to get to the start!
It was a colder day than the GS but that didn't slow DesaRae one bit and she fearlessly won the fastest race of the games! We couldn't be more PROUD of YOU Champion! Way to represent Kentucky Special Olympics, Lucky Racer & the Special Olympics USA!I
Teagan once again showed her strength, grit and determination during her Super G race when she fell, lost a ski-but was able to get up, get her ski back on and return to the course under the 1 minute time allowed. She proudly accepted 7th place and we couldn’t be more proud of our skier❤️
DesaRae was exhausted after two days of racing and opted not to race the slalom.

On Tuesday March 18th a very nice celebration of DesaRae's amazing performance in Italy was organized at Reno's Steak House.
Republican Party Chair Emily White had big photos printed for DesaRae to sign and hand out and supplied posters and balloons too. The event was well attended by area Special Olympics athletes and their families as well as at least 4 of DesaRae's 5 aunts , family and friends. Someone in the Republican Party even picked up the check for everyone's dinner! See DesaRea's fantastic speech she gave below and the LEX 18 News report on her win HERE. A fun time was had by all! Attendees of the Race camp put on by LUCKY RACER coaches two weeks before the World Games came home with some great performances. From left to right Jason Hais (Cincinnati) did not medal but as they say in Special Olympics "was brave in the attempt". Jason is a great skier so I imagine his advanced heat was very competitive. Our DesaRae came home with a bronze in GS and GOLD in Super G. Christina Danieli got two golds. One in GS and one in super G. (those Michigan girls can ski!) Tommy Sliva (Indy) got a silver in super G. Congrats to all our "campers" and we are very happy that we could help these great athletes prepere for the biggest race of their life!
